Counting to 10

Course overview

This course helps Pre-Elementary students build the idea of counting from the ground up. They learn to say one number for one object, to count to ten in order, and to notice when the count is complete.

What students will learn

  • Count one object, step, or clap for each number.
  • Say the numbers from 1 to 10 in the correct order.
  • Recognize the last number in a counted set.
  • Count forward and backward with support.
  • Explain counting using simple words and gestures.

Lessons

Parent guide

Use short practice times and everyday objects. Count snacks, socks, steps, or toy cars so the child sees counting as part of real life. If the child is ready, ask them to explain how they know the count is finished.

Completion

A student finishes this course when they can count small sets one by one, say the numbers in order to 10, and count backward from 10 with help.
