Lesson
Weather and Water Changes
Students learn how weather conditions, clouds, and cooling air change water in the atmosphere.
Weather and Water Changes
What students learn
Students learn that weather is what the air and sky are doing right now, and that water can change as weather changes. Begin with to name common weather first.
Why it matters
Weather affects what children wear, what they carry, and whether they can play outside. Use to help students notice that weather changes over time.
Learn the idea
When air cools, water vapor can turn back into tiny droplets. That is condensation. Watch to connect cloud formation and damp surfaces to the water cycle.
Try it
Look outside and name one weather condition, then ask how it might change water in the air or on the ground. Have the student explain whether they are seeing sun, rain, clouds, or cooling air.
Parent guide
Use real weather from the day you are living in. If you can, point to a window, a cold glass, or a rainy sidewalk and ask what the water is doing. Keep the focus on observing and naming what changes.
