What students learn

Why it matters

Learn the idea

Try it

Give the student a simple 3 by 3 grid with one missing number and ask them to find the total for the row, then test the other lines. Ask them to explain how they knew the square was balanced.

Parent guide

Keep the language simple: same sum, row, column, diagonal, check again. If the child guesses too quickly, point them back to one line at a time and ask them to verify the total before moving on.
