Build the Grid

What students learn

Students learn to list the categories, options, and spaces in a table before they try to solve the puzzle. Start with to see the setup step first.

Why it matters

A good grid keeps the clues organized so students can see the puzzle instead of trying to hold everything in memory. shows why the table belongs at the center of the work.

Learn the idea

Once the grid is ready, even one clue can give useful information. shows how a single mark can begin the solve.

Try it

Give the student three categories with three choices each and ask them to draw the grid before any clue is read. Then have them label the rows and columns out loud.

Parent guide

If the table looks messy, slow down and rebuild it with the student. The goal is a clear working space, not speed.
