Blend and Spell CVC Words

Students use extra practice clips to blend sounds smoothly and spell simple CVC words.

Blend and Spell CVC Words

What students learn

Students learn how to move from isolated sounds to a full word. They also practice spelling by listening for the beginning, middle, and ending sounds.

Why it matters

Blending and spelling together helps students become stronger readers and writers. It builds confidence because they can hear the word, read the word, and then write the word.

Learn the idea

First, watch to hear how the sounds connect. Then use to practice the words in order.

If the student needs one more reset, revisit and ask them to spell each word after they say it.

Try it

Say a CVC word slowly and have the student build it with letters, blocks, or sound boxes. Then have them write the word from memory and check each sound.

Parent guide

Use short practice bursts and stop before the child gets tired. Ask them to say the sounds, blend the word, and then spell it back. If they miss a sound, have them listen again and focus on the middle vowel first, then the ending consonant.
