Course
Sorting, Patterns, and Shapes
A Pre-Elementary math course that helps students sort by one feature, notice repeating patterns, and name basic shapes.
Sorting, Patterns, and Shapes
Course overview
This course helps Pre-Elementary students build three important math habits. They sort and match objects by one attribute, notice simple repeating patterns, and name basic shapes by their parts.
What students will learn
- Sort objects by color, size, or another visible feature.
- Match items that belong together.
- Notice what comes next in a repeating pattern.
- Copy and extend a simple pattern.
- Name common shapes and count their sides and corners.
Lessons
- Sort and Match by Attribute - Learn to group objects by color or size and match items that go together.
- Simple Repeating Patterns - Practice noticing, copying, and extending short patterns.
- Basic Shapes and Parts - Name simple shapes and describe them by sides and corners.
Parent guide
Use short, hands-on practice times. Sorting can happen with toys, patterns can happen with claps or colors, and shapes can be found in the room, on a page, or on a walk.
Completion
A student finishes this course when they can sort by one attribute, continue a simple pattern, and name basic shapes with help from visual clues.
