Sorting, Patterns, and Shapes

Course overview

This course helps Pre-Elementary students build three important math habits. They sort and match objects by one attribute, notice simple repeating patterns, and name basic shapes by their parts.

What students will learn

  • Sort objects by color, size, or another visible feature.
  • Match items that belong together.
  • Notice what comes next in a repeating pattern.
  • Copy and extend a simple pattern.
  • Name common shapes and count their sides and corners.

Lessons

Parent guide

Use short, hands-on practice times. Sorting can happen with toys, patterns can happen with claps or colors, and shapes can be found in the room, on a page, or on a walk.

Completion

A student finishes this course when they can sort by one attribute, continue a simple pattern, and name basic shapes with help from visual clues.
