Course
Weather, Climate, and Patterns
A Grade 5 science course about weather, climate patterns, extreme weather safety, weather maps, and long-term climate data.
Weather, Climate, and Patterns
Course overview
This course helps Grade 5 students explain the difference between weather and climate, recognize climate patterns, read weather maps, think about severe weather safety, and interpret long-term data. Students move from short-term observations to larger patterns that help explain the world around them.
What students will learn
- Distinguish weather from climate.
- Identify climate patterns such as El Nino and La Nina.
- Read simple weather maps and follow fronts.
- Explain what to do during severe weather.
- Interpret climate graphs and weather records.
Lessons
- Weather Vs Climate - Learn how short-term weather differs from long-term climate.
- Weather Maps And Forecasting - Read weather maps and prepare for changing conditions.
- Climate Graphs And Data - Compare graphs and records to find long-term patterns.
Parent guide
Work through the course with recent forecasts, a monthly climate chart, or a local weather log. Ask your child to explain whether a claim is about a day, a season, or many years.
Completion
A student finishes this course when they can explain weather versus climate, read a basic weather map, and use data to describe a long-term pattern.
