Cells, Body Systems, and Health
Course overview
This course helps Grade 5 students understand how cells build living things, how major body systems work together, and how nutrition and hygiene support health. Students connect tiny building blocks, body jobs, and daily habits into one clear picture of how living bodies stay alive and well.
What students will learn
- Describe cells as the basic units of life.
- Explain how major body systems share the work of keeping the body alive.
- Identify food groups and healthy habits that support growth and disease prevention.
Lessons
- Cells as Basic Units of Life - Learn why cells are the starting point for every living thing.
- Major Body Systems Work Together - See how the body uses several systems at once.
- Nutrition and Disease Prevention - Build habits that support growth, energy, and protection from germs.
Parent guide
Use the real world to make the science concrete. Point to a plant, a person, a meal, or a handwashing routine and ask your child what cells, systems, or health habits are involved. If a concept feels abstract, return to the lessons and have your child explain it again in one or two sentences.
Completion
A student finishes this course when they can explain what cells do, name several major body systems and how they help one another, and describe healthy habits that support nutrition and prevent disease.
