Course overview

This course helps Grade 1 students understand what plants, animals, and humans need to stay alive and grow. Students learn through short video moments, discussion, and simple science language.

What students will learn

• Name the basic needs of plants, animals, and humans.
• Explain how living things share some needs and have some different needs.
• Describe how plants get what they need from the environment.
• Tell how people care for living things in safe places.

Lessons

• Needs of Plants - Learn what plants need from the sun, air, water, and soil.

• Needs of Humans - Learn how human needs compare with other living things.

Parent guide

Pace this course over three short sessions or one week of science time. Let students point to real plants, pets, and household examples, then explain each answer in their own words. If a child struggles, return to the first lesson and reuse the video moments before moving forward.

Completion

A student finishes this course when they can name what plants, animals, and humans need, explain how some needs are shared, and describe one way to care for a living thing.
